Default Re: Additional battlefield text?

Horrors are alien being from behing the material plane, that are attracked to strong astral energies (horror mark).

A commander that have one or more horror marks (you don't know how much a commander haven only if it has at least one (an icon appear)) have a chance (the more marks the greater the chance) each turn to be attacked by an horror (sort of like an assassination : the commander is alone with up to 5 bodyguards).

If you're lucky, it will only be a lesser or normal horror, but even then it might be enough to kill most unprepared commanders, else you might have to fight one of the Doom Horrors, amongst the mightiest creatures in the dominion Universe (All but the better prepared SC can die almost immediatly versus those, MR helps a lot to resist some "instant death" attacks)

You can use the spell wish and ask for a doom horror (there are several unique doom horrors), but contrary to others units that you can wish for, they always came as a commander, sometimes attack you immediatly, and even when controlled, leave usually after a few turns or the first fight.

How do you get horror marks :

- the astral spell "horror mark" add a mark to an opponent. It won't kill the ennemy pretender (units with high HP are preferred targets of those spells), but in the long run it might end by its death (but a lone horror mark might not attrack a single horror in a normal game, the chance is still very low, but each additionnal mark will increase it)
- another astral spell (astral geyser or fountain I think) give horror marks in a small area.
- some powerful items (mainly some artifacts) give the wearer a horror mark when equipped (you use their power by risking to attrack strange things from outer dimensions), others have a (usually very small) chance to give an mark each turn (for exemple the devil contracts that you can forge with blood magic). Check your manual : the item description there usually tells when the item can give a mark. (but there are exeptions)
- When attacked by an horror, some of their attacks can themselves give you additionnal horror marks ("you survived versus the first hunter, but it put his mark on you, and now his friends come to you")

There is also some blood+Astral spells that deal with horrors.

And the Air spell "false horror" is just an illusion of a lesser horror: weak, but able to inspire fear in weak-willed opponents.
