FYI - I find the right slave mage with a Thistle Mace -> Contact Naiad to be the most reliable way to power a clam economy. It's replicable, so you can crank out multiple per turn. The Naiads do go insane (and never get better, ergo there is no cure for insanity because recuperators don't get better) but when they are sane they do bang up work.
