So, I'm new here. My handle is SlipperyJim, based on the
Stainless Steel Rat books by Harry Harrison.
In real life, I'm a 33-year-old IT geek from the DC metro area in the United States of America. I've played computer games since I was a kid, back in the days of DOS. My first love in the strategy-gaming field was a little gem called
Master of Magic. Since then, I've been on the lookout for good turn-based fantasy-themed strategy games.
I found the original
Dominions: PPP in an article about good games that run in Linux. Ironically, I don't really run Linux anymore, but the Windows version of
Dominions: PPP made me very happy. Heck, I still play it sometimes. I skipped over Dom2 because I was playing other games at the time. However, when I saw that Dom3 was being released, I decided to give it a try.
Overall, I'm even more pleased with Dom3 than I was with the original. Illwinter made some good decisions to streamline a lot of the tedious micromanagement stuff. (Blood hunting used to be a right pain in the tailfeathers!) Supercombatants have been nerfed hard, but they're still useful. And the new nations are very very cool.
I
don't have any interest in playing MP right now. Sorry, but my real-life schedule is too busy for any gaming commitments. Still, I derive great satisfaction from stomping the heck out of the AIs in single-player mode.
