This is a very good idea. And the name targeting laser is a good call. In TRIBES we had this green targeting range finder laser that would allow a player to direct fire onto a specific target or to gauge the range for his own mortar attack.
Having a range finding/laser sighting component on a PD ship is a novel and excellent idea.
