Not a rumor. I jumped in and out of a few rooms on a few irc servers while I was testing this. Anything with a *dom* in the name that looked appropriate. 
But I didnt want to disturb the conversations so I jumped right out. I didnt realize that going in this way was going to announce me without letting me use my just-another-gamer nick. Im more used to seeing things from the server side.
