The truth is, I knew the dominion kill was unavoidable, which was why I sent out my army after you in the last few turns, a rather desperate move I admit, regrettably with the nexus I couldn't create enough water-breathing items, otherwise would have Atlantis utterly destroyed.
Considering I've been quite cruelly manipulating your actions since the beginning (remember the caelum attack and sending you into the sea while I was busy fighting Caelum myself?). you merely got lucky hiding in the sea.
