Most of the times people are living in different timezones (US/Europe/Asia) and have duties and ligations which conflict with those that others might have. Waiting for the host to hand out the next turn can be very boring during the first 10 turns where nothing much happens, but you'll have to live with that. As soon as you get in contact with your neighbors it's going to get interesting.
