In all honesty, that doesn't bother me so much. On other maps (random or otherwise) there will still be better and worse spots. If you're in a good spot you try to use it, if you're in a bad spot you try to make up for it. I recently started a new game on the Glory of the Gods map. Fate decided that Ulm sat just south of a sea where R'lyeh reigned, and I was just south of him. He managed to conquer 5 provinces and then he had nowhere left to go, so with no other choise he attacked me and lost. It sucks, but it happens. And I'd rather have such things happen to me on beutifull maps than on ugly ones.
