I like building something up from nothing. (My favorite start for SEIV is single planet, low tech.) I'm curious to see how big Fiducia can get before someone notices it. I also feel a sense of loyalty to my alliance and my trade partners.
I played Nation States as well; I dropped that when the events got too repetitive. I agree that CN is more detailed than NS. I didn't join the UN in NS for much the same reasons that I don't read the CN forums.
