Massive amounts of hoburg crossbowmen save my Abysian elites from nasties like illithids and incomming aoe spells. They are great to have around because they are easy-to-lose chaff troops, that pack an incredibly nasty punch with flamming arrows. Just don't expect them to stick around if any enemies get on top of them
