Research is easy, just give your mages the research order and chose what school to research in the magics menu. After a couple of turns you have access to a bunc of new spells.

Well, I'm sorry for buying a pirated version of the game. The game came in the box, with it's CD key on a sheet of paper. I've gotten games like this before, thought nothing of it because it said it had been used, and hey, people lose manuals. Hell, that's the first thing I tend to lose.
But, thanks for being so helpful. The game *is* fun..
