All that SEIV is looking for is 1 picture for each of the required set of pics for each race. Each has a filename starting with the name of the empire itself.

So for example there is a piundon_Portrait_BattleCruiser pic and Praetorian_Portrait_Battlecruiser pic.

Now you could copy the piundon battlecruiser pic over the Preatorian one, and as long as the piundon one was rename to have the Preatorian race name at the start, and placed in the Preatorian directory then SE4 would load it as the battlecruiser pic for the Preatorian race.

This applies to all picture files, all can be replaced with any image you like, provided it conforms to the same image size as the picture you are replacing. And also has to have the race name matche the race u are using that new pic for then its not a problem.

"Is there any way I can move the ship picture files around so that, for example, the Piundon ships are placed with the Terran race portrait?"

To complete your example, copy the terran race portraits over to the piundon directory and rename to have the piundon race name at the front (move the actual piundon one elsewhere unless u want to have to reinstall later to get the original image back if u decide u preferred it the way it was)
