Hmmmm, it seems you're right. I just tested: works against monkeys, AND it works against elephants (including against trample).
I suppose I fell on the wrong side of probability: apparently not one of the 5 elephants failed the awe check...unlikely but not impossible, I guess.
After checking the DB & seeing none of the 'aawe' flags activated, I just assumed it wasn't implemented. Sorry for the confusion.
