Actually, when coming under fire and retreating I´ve seen infantry really pop smoke grenades, that makes the smoke grenade sound in the hex they were occupying and then retreating to the next hex. I am not referring to the shooting kicking up dust etc. see through smoke, but real non-see-through smoke.
