I just wanted to know what the rule would be for this game. I don't think anyone will lie about having been wiped out, but the definition of being dead could be many different things, especially if trading of planets (or even colony ships with population) is allowed.

It could be any combination of:

You must have population under your control.
You must have population of your original type under your control.
You must have a ship under your control.
You must have a (populated?) colony under your control.
