I think you meant "what do I research first". Evo up to 4 for Thunderstrike should work. If your Cyclops is awake/sleeping (I'm sure he's not imprisoned) you might do Const2, Conj3, Evo4.
With so much air, and just expensive mages, I think if you want a research boost you could just forge some quills instead of getting Magic-3 scales.
