I wll recommend a new one (I hope the PD purists don't read this). Bandar Log!
They have the greatest diversity in troops, a recruitable anywhere inexpensive sacred, astonishing variety and quality in national summons and very good magic paths. They are a strong Astral nation with all the attendant benefits of Astral. They have built in access to all the best globals except the Forge, which requires pretender pathing.
I think they are easier to play than T'ien Ch'i because you will not get overwhelmed with the magic options.
They do have weak PD and don't win often in MP.
