I actually gave all my gems to Calmon in one game when he killed me, because I was the one that started the war, so I didn't have much of a problem with him crushing me, and I figured the rest of the world deserved him as an overlord after they failed to help me out (He was clearly very much dominating the game at that point). They got mad at me for that stunt, but I quite enjoyed it.

That again. Nobody managed to help you because you were on an island, killed off all the other inhabitants before calmon got there, and his Marignon was the only one being able to sail across the waters, as you might recall. Plus, the other nations were getting their asses handed to them by LA Ermor all the while. calmon might have won eventually because he had a very good start and seized that island, but for all the others, having invested weeks and months into a game and then experiencing that the game ends prematurely because somebody is acting out of spite wasn't fun at all. I think that big gem movements like those should be forbidden, even if it's among friends. They're very unbalancing and just hurt the game. Some negligible faction that didn't expand past turn 12 gets finished off a couple dozen turns later, and suddenly there are hundreds of gems going around.
