Re: Seeking info on .50 cal SLAP ammo
The front armor on the BMP-1 and BMP-2 can withstand hits from those things but I have read that sides and rear can be penetrated by .50 caliber armor piercing ammo and other heavy machine guns.
The BMP-3 has better front armor and is capable of withstanding 20mm, 23mm, and at ranges of 400 meters or greater 30mm AP (not modern APFSDS however.) In an effort to keep a low weight however the sides are not much better than earlier BMPs.
There is an add-on side passive armor kit which protects from .50 caliber AP fire. Also the reactive armor kit provides protection from .50 cal AP fire and can defeat single charge HEAT weapons and 30mm APFSDS (but the ERA block would be destroyed in the process.)
Russian 14.5mm machine guns should be capable of penetrating M113s and the sides of a few other vehicles unless add-on armor is fitted.
