Primary: Giant poisonous slugs that spew flames.
Secondary: I forget. Some kind of robotic tyrannosaurs?
Tertiary: Headless clay-men with swords for hands.
Primaries were themselves spawned by giant crocodile-headed spaceships. That would be your pretender.
