Well, I think that's thematic. It has a chance of taking damage any time it rams its massive bulk into a throng of enemy soldiers. The enormous weight and inertia just sometimes causes a support to start buckling or something.
Of course, if the AOE could be set as physical damage, and this Machine had a very high prot value, it would be unlikely to get very badly hurt by this.
