He wanted a way to reducing misery worldwide, so started the Well of Misery foundation to siphon the essences of misery away from the world. He considered the death gems just a side effect, never his goal, he's fulfilled just knowing that children are happier. He donates the gems to Argatha, and in return gets a large tax write-off.
