Yes, I served long ago, 10 years ago actually. I was supposed to serve six years as part of an academic program, but there was a time when after three years one could choose not to continue (apparently hi-tech industry was at a low and tech units in the army were more attractive or some such). I made my choice and haven't regretted it since.
