When I start my next battle I shall attempt to cross attach them again to see if that solves the problem. By cross attach I mean to use the cross attach button on the tool bar as opposed to the cross attach formation option on the roster.

Apparently, the crash occurred twice just as one of these units started firing AAA at one of my Tempests diving to attack. I beleive he fixed it by turning the weapons off on the offending units. We've playing serveral turns since with no problems.
Now as to his Panthers turning my Shermans into ghosts!!!
