I think the usual method for widescreen, is to simply allow the game to show more on the screen.

Rather than formatting it so you get something like other monitors show, expand the view, rather than expanding the graphics. It would be so nice to be able to see more of the map at any given time, that's for sure.
For me though, I've gotten so used to the "fat" graphics, that the game looks somehow wrong when I play in a normal aspect window to multitask while turns resolve.
