1. Experience gain
In the manual it said that you can gain exp by just hitting the bad guys and if there is a kill (esp the first 5), the exp will boost up. It also mentioned that killing the crew will gain nothing except a kill mark for your unit. My question is that how about firing at the crew? Do I gain exp by firing at crew? And suppose a unit's first 5 kills are all "crew kills", i.e., destroying crews, do they waste the first 5 kill bonus?
Crews are targets. A crew kill is just another kill to be marked up. So kill a tank and then slaughter the bailed remnant crew = 2 kill markers and 2 kill "events".

Crews are valid targets anyway. A killed crew cannot recrew its weapon or vehicle. So if say CB fire makes a mortar crew abandon, then pond the ground behind the abandoned mortar to try for the now unseen running crew.

If playing a PBEM campaign against another human, the crew may be part of his core - so kill them and the replacement he will get will tend to be less experienced in the next battle.

2. Arty calling
Suppose my FO has no LOS to bad buys but HAS LOS to a hex adjacent to the bad buys. Where should the arty be called on? The empty hex with LOS or the hex with enemy but without LOS? Which way is better?

Thanks.

If you have LOS to a hex near enough to them, that will allow the arty shell pattern (including blast effects) to still reach the intended enemy then that may well be a better target, since fire on an observed hex will tend not to drift.

NB - the new EXE will make that choice more relevant since adjusting fires onto hexes that are not in the observers LOS will attract more delay.

Cheers
Andy
