If you hit the Eye Shield in melee then you need to make an MR check, I think against Pen+2. If you fail that check you lose an eye.
To hit the Eye Shield in melee, you need:
(Def+DRN) < (Attack+DRN) < (Def+DRN+5)
Some of those '<' might actually be '<='. 'Def' does not include shield parry.
