This is CD v4.5. Don't recall having a problem with map size in v4.0 but can't be 100% sure, only noticed it during the last battle as the number of units on map is increasing (my Exp = more points for AI = enemy across full width of map).

Any ideas why the preferences setting is ignored?

1) Did you load a custom map - the custom map will override the preferences you set.
2) Did you set the preferences to a new figure before the end of battle for some other battle?. Game uses whatever is
currently set in preferences menu AFAIR.
Please report the figure you currently have set in preferences.
