Ah! - You have already confused the Left-Pondians -
"pissed" = drunk (Scots, "pished","blootered").
"pissed as a newt" or "pissed as a parrot" = staggering drunk
American "pissed" =
angry, or at least severely annoyed. Which is something
entirely different! from the original English meaning of the phrase!.
