Maybe a good start to avoid this kind of discution (i have the best source, no it's me..) is to give a list of "trusted" sources ?
All the game really cares about is whether it's a jet or a prop, really.

That appears at speed 6 (or 9) - cannot recall exactly.

- the aircraft noise changes from prop to jet
- It becomes marginally more difficult to hit with low FC AAA (MGs and old AAA guns). Missiles ignore speed.
- Faster planes move across the map a tad faster per 'pulse', so getting fewer shot opportunities against them. That is about the only (marginal) benefit of aircraft speed. There may be an internal code limitation to that, too.

The game has no concept of "high" altitude (bar level bombers and off-map missile launches, where speed of target is irrelevant). All on-map attacks bar level bombers are down in the weeds lo-lo-lo strafing.

Thus - if we were to be pedantic - the speed should be limited to high subsonic, since that is the only speed that jets will do at that altitude, esp if loaded with ordnance. (Barring say the TSR 2, FB-111, buccaneer and similar specialist aircraft, but that would only be doing supersonic on the deck if laying down a 'special' weapon and otherwise in clean configuration bar the bucket of "instant sunshine").

Perhaps we might therefore look at the OOBs and limit jets to 9 or 10 (say) - since that is the practical limitation for planes carrying ordnace at low altitudes. Anything else is up at medium or high, and probably for airframes with little or no ground ordnance clutter, performing air-air manoeuvring that are irrelevant for game purposes.
