You might glance at TinyNation mod on my site. Its not meant as a serious mod. It just does a bunch of the basic mod things with annotated notes to give people an idea of what can be done and how to get started.
Then grab one of Sombre's nation mods to refer to for the harder stuff. Almost better than a manual.
