Wasn't that put in MBT 4.5 for the first time last year; and this is the first time I've been able to use it in WW2.

Nope - back in the good old DOS days, V 2.0 as far as I can recollect, along with the in-game help section (
? key), where all these hot keys are listed. So they have been there (and listed in the in-game help and the GG) since 1999 or 2000-ish.
