If you started this as a human versus human random battle game - then you are stuck with a human V human game.

However - you could go into the headquarters menu (for each side) and set each and every formation to computer control. Plus any waypoints, if feeling adventurous.

You may still have to manually "end turn" for each player.

Also I am not sure if arty gets auto-assigned in that mode. (I have only ever used computer control to get hordes of infantry across a map to a covered forming up area, in e.g. snow. Then I spend a few turns sorting out the mess the AI made before the final assault, of course! )

An AI v AI game will only play right through if you set up as AI v AI at the very start. We as developers sometimes will do this for various test purposes (usually of the AI).

Scenario games may also allow both sides to be AI - useful for scenario designer testing.
