I once played a single player game that was massively difficult for me. I got unlucky (or was it lucky?) and started in a system that only had 3 wps. One went to a deadend system with only 2 planets I could colonize and the other 2 both went to blackholes! Damaging wps and all. After YEARS of preperation I finally got through both black holes with an undamaged ship only to find 2 more black holes! By the time I even made it out of there and encountered anyone else, I was using destroyers and they all had battleships and up! Now that was a hard game.
