It looks like the Mosen-Nagant m/90-30 PU was the predessor to the SVD which is still in service today along with the SVU
(Ref. 3) Para version which was a further development of the SVD. Next up in development was the Vintorez also provided below. Never used it for that purpose of course, but I prefered the M-14 best rifle I ever shot and the only one I shot expert with, couldn't get there with the M-16/AR-15 or other.
