My wife disagrees. I was helping my son with Algebra homework, and I said "So X is equal to 8." My wife walked by about then and said "Eight? Eight! X is equal to 8? I spent a year in Algebra and never could figure out what X was, and now I find out that it's 8. Why didn't they just tell us? I can't believe I wasted all that time." She wandered out, muttering "Eight . . ."
