Even if you're not playing a campaign, this is a reason to preserve your damaged units, and finish off enemy units.

A 10 man squad/section, worth 25 points, that has lost 7 men has gained/lost someone only 7 victory points; but if that unit is destroyed someone has gained/lost 25 VP.
