Default Re: RT: Where'd they come from

Well, the games come in three series, based on the game engine:

BCT
BCT commander

ATF
Armored task force
Raging tiger
The Falklands war
The star and the cresent

AATF
Air assault task force
Battle group commander

Being old infantry man myself (and somewhat anglofile), my favorite game is the Falklands war. Almost entirely infantry, so be prepared for long battles.

ATF is also a great game, with scenarios varying from wooded north Germany to sand dunes of Iraq. Primarely focused on armor.

I am playing RT at the moment. On one side this game has got varying scenarios, with good use of both armored and infantry units. On the other hand there are some tecnicalyties that are annoying – such as tanks that can take ICBM layer after layer from two batteries, but is eventually destroyed by one shot in the back of a TOW missile.
I have two missions where all tasks are met, but the game will not end with success.
Helicopters will not fire on certain enemy dismounts.

TSATC is interesting from historical point of view, but many of the missions are very short – only 60/90 minutes if I remember correctly.

AATF I have yet to play.

Battle group commander is an interesting piece, I hope we get to see more episodes. The scenarios are very varied - some are quickly won; an other is diabolicly difficault.
On the down side – playing a scenario with a infantry company that has no use in the game.

BCT commander has the best collection of scenarios – but also an old engine. If only it could be transfered to the ATF engine.

What to choose depends on what type of combat you want to do – infantry or armor heavy?

Well that is my opinion. Please lets us hear what others think.
