As far as I recollect a large shell hole reduces the sticking value of bocage hedgerows, and also has the same effect on fire trenches/anti-tank ditches. But I am not going to dig into the code to find the details.

But nothing will remove them since they are a terrain feature like a wood or a field.

They are not in any way insurmountable. They do cost a fair bit to cross, but like all other obstacles:

a) Drive up alongside it in turn 1

b) Stop - even if you have sufficient MP to cross it remaining, since the number of hexes travelled prior to the crossing attempt multiplies the sticking chance. (Or the chance of tripping mines in a minefield).

c) In turn 2, as the first hex moved - cross the obstacle at the minimum stick chance, after rallying off any suppression as that can add to sticking chance. Do not fire first either, as that adds to expended MP.
