Taskforce,are you trying to rescue your tank crews(ie; get them safely to the rear by some type of transport)?...or are they left to thier own demise.
It could be they were eliminated by some hmg fire as the AI loves to target them or by arty.
I never had this problem with crews that got out intact myself, but always use smoke for crews if possible (esp.the vets) and get them out harms way ASAP preferably via an HT.
As Andy explians if a unit occupies the same hex for turn of abandoned afv, it's gone.
