you make your own story and future. This isn't a final fantasy type of game where the story is set. You do what you feel like. The movement effects your character because without it you won't be going any where. If you were an assasin you would need transport to get to your location. You can go anywhere. Use some imagination.

Depending on what your character does depends on the choices you face. Ship combat might effect your character because anything in the system where ship combat is, will be affected by the battle taking place.
