The shipset selection is just there for the conveinence of the other players in the game. It allows them to know what shipset you are using so they don't use the same one and allows them an easy link to download the shipset if you are using a custom one. You can choose a shipset at the time you upload your empire, but you don't have to, and you can of course choose the wrong one, there is no checking involved and it has no impact on the game itself.
You can choose from any of the shipsets in the PBW file library, and we have also added links for the stock shipsets so you can choose those as well. If yours is not listed you can upload it to the PBW file library shipset section and it will be there as a link from that point on.
