Being a contrarian, and picking the least favorite atmosphere/planet type (except maybe ice, which seems to be a disadvantage however you slice it), might be a nice advantage in the early game.

It's possible that everyone else could trade colonization techs and population. Even with only one tech and one race trade, your benefit would dissolve
