Re: Are you tough enough to be the "King of the Hill"?
Thank you for the game DavidG. I would say you played a seriously good game. As I mentioned earlier, you gave me much to worry about.
It all came down to those two battles. And yes, I think I had something like a +50% advantage on the high end. I'll write you back using email to chat it up.
As far as your strategies, I was going to ask you what you were using for your ships and fleet. I saw the same result, where your ships would choose targets far away.
I'm not an expert with ships and formations; but here's my guess: I think what was killing you was "Most damaged." Instead of choosing a close target, they went out of their way to fire at a damaged target packed behind a few ships.
For the second battle, you are right; not having ships in a fleet gave you that scattered problem which just made things worse.
I would highly recommend you try the combat simulator to see the results of different strategies. Most of the time, I narrow it down from finding out what doesn't work...
But I have been on the receiving end of butt kickings before, sometimes with little rationale. I do think there is a variable factor that sometimes helps produce lopsided battles. And at times, some unknown logic compels your ships to be piloted by "Capt. Spaz" and behave way differently than you would expect their strategies.
However, the Bottom line is: my fleets and ships were better trained, and I think the was the big factor.
