I think the problem was that it was a warp point battle--I came through and destroyed the one ship the missiles would target pretty quickly. The missile ships were moving, all right--
away from the sats.
Had there been any ships further away, I'm sure they would have moved past the sats and got some shots in. Not enough to make much difference, but some.
