I expected you to attack it and knew if you did it would be glassed. Abandoning it preserves the resource value of the planet and doesn't affect my empire happiness. And for once I wanted to be the one giving you a suprise, no matter how lame.

Good play then on your part - very subtle. I could not figure out why I could not "see" your colony - until I read your post. So, yes, you definitely surprised me, and, no, it was actually not lame at all but very cool.
