Hi just got the game and I was woundering if there was any use for the cargo transport ships?

You bet! You can use transports to move population and units around. Units are mines, satellites, weapon platforms, troops and fighters. Cargo transports are very, very important to the game, IMHO.

As raynor said, everything that is not a ship is cargo.

My two favorite uses are to move captured aliens to a penal colony and to transport troops. As was stated before these ships are vital.
