Default More Vehicles

How can I make the opposition buy more tanks and vehicles? I have the AI Tank Heavy on but the opposition seems to just buy tons and tons of infantry. Is there something else that I can change?

- Don't play in city maps. AI likes to buy extra grunts in cities.

- Have enough points spent on your side to make the AI actually buy armour/mech forces. It buys leg if points are low.

- Play against armies that actually have armoured forces available. Not much point switching tank heavy on for say Viet Cong, Mujadeen, Somali and other similar forces which are not noted for their blitzkrieg tactics.

Or - you might actually mention the specific forces involved, battle type, points you have actually spent and so on so we could investigate if you may have a point. (e.g the pick list may be cream crackered).

Cheers
Andy

Thanks for the reply Andy.

Yesterday I played Germany v Romania in 2007 and I was Germany with 1500 pts. (a Leo6 and Mech Inf squad and some Jaegers. Romania picked no vehicles)

I played Israel v Egypt 2006. I don't remember the points but I had 9 merkava 4s and Egypt picked 3 M1's and the rest infantry. I was hoping for a just tank v tank in open plains. Instead I got shoot the infantry at 500m. I've had the same issue when playing the Syrians.

Those are a couple. I realise that the VC, mujahideen, etc won't give me a tank battle but I figure European and Mid East armies would show up to play.

Not sure how the picklists work. Are they editable?

this link from only a couple of days ago should do. But remember that pick lists are very, very advanced hacking, and there will be absolutely no help given apart from the above.

1) you played in 2007 with 1500 points. In 2007, that is almost no points whatsoever. Chump change. 21st century MBT will cost 400-500 points each. So the AI will go for cheap troops to round out its force as it will not have enough points to consider even a platoon of MBT most likely.

2) "Egypt picked 3 M1's and the rest infantry". Well - again, the 3 MBT have eaten almost all the AI's points (about 1200 of 1500) . So it will round out with the cheap stuff, ie what it can actually buy with those 300 or so points it has left. The AI wants a balanced force if it can - so it needs some infantry, mortars and AAA.

If you want the AI to have armoured forces, then you will need to have an adequate amount of points available for it to do it on, for the era you are playing in. 1500 points is a small amount of troops in 1940 when Shermans cost 70 points a pop, and merely the cost of a leg rifle coy in 2000+ when Challengers go for 500 points each. Try using about 20,000 or 30,000 points plus to see company-sized tank buys by the AI in the 2000s AD.

Cheers Andy

Just for grins I picks 3 German Panzer Kompanie against Romania again and set it so I could deploy what the AI bought for the Romanians. I didn't count but they had tonnes of tanks. I didn't play it but it would have been sad for the Romanians I believe. The tanks that they had the most of were T34-85s against Leopard 6s :-)

Thanks for the info on picklists as well.

I like smaller battles so I may have to play around with them to give me more tanks in those.

DRG will become famous soon enough

The next most obvious solution is to set the "AI" player 2 Purchase button to human control and then you buy the force you want to face. The AI will do the deploying but you picked the exact force you want. It's a must simpler solution than altering picklists which is NOT a "beginner" activity in the least. It's a perfectly acceptable solution that many people do all the time. I do. Some times you just want to slug it out tank to tank or just play Mech infantry vs Mech infantry so the simple solution is by them yourself.
