Pbem
Hello all,
I've got two PBEM game problems:
1) I can't play any received games. I've got windows 7 and my game is at 5.0 status. I extract the files to the PBEM folder. When I click on the games, it says that it failed to load.
2) When I try to put PBEM games together, it doesn't show up in the folder. Also, I can access the other side's purchase screen. I set up full security games.
Thanks,
MCab

Re: Pbem
Your problem probably is that you have windows 7, which is not an officially supported O/S. Windows XP is the latest model in the supported O/S list.
Have you read the windows 7 and vista threads that are posted as stickys at the top of the forum?. In particular, have you installed your game to a folder outside of the windows 7 managed /program files/ hierarchy as seems to be the accepted way to make windows 7/vista not install various files to strange folders on its own whim?.
If not, deinstall your game and then reinstall it under C:\games\WinSPXXX or whatever path you choose for it. Install the patches to that folder as well. Then restart your PBEM games from scratch (to include set up with your opponent), since secure PBEM will not work if the folder route changes, or the game is reinstalled. This should remove your problems with the Windows 7 O/S installing some files under /program files/... and some under /your user folder/... by bypassing the windows 7/vista file management completely .
Cheers
Andy

Re: Pbem
Reinstalled it to a folder to my desktop, installed all the patches, and I can only get the option screen.

Re: Pbem
Explain further, you have turned the introduction off - first choice on option screen?
Not related but it would not surprise me if deskktop is also monitored by UAB or whatever its called & moves your files. Never place stuff there so did not think about.

Yes, I turned it off. Per your advice, I originally moved the whole WinSPMBT file to another place in C, and it worked. Then, I loaded a PBEM game, but it was my opponent's password page. I couldn't get out of it, so I Ctl-Alt-Del, which I learned, is a no-no. Didn't work, so I deinstalled it and reinstalled on the desktop. I'll try reinstalling on the C:/ .
Thanks.

Re: Pbem
Try running them in Win XP SP3 compatibility and in windowed mode. Works for me.
