Quick, Aaron! Talk to Gamespy!

C'mon Malfador! Let's see if you can get an interview with Gamespy as well and show that SE5 is going to be far better than GC2! Some nice screenshots wouldn't hurt too!

Re: Quick, Aaron! Talk to Gamespy!
heh. Looks like they're 'big combat feature' is stuff that SE has had since SE2. Only less detailed.
Not surprising given that they're going for a more abstract scale, but its kind of insulting the way they play it off as an innovation. "The standard 4x game" has with a few exceptions always had more detail than attack and defense ratings..

SE5 could own that game, we have to do something to get SE5 more attention.

Re: Quick, Aaron! Talk to Gamespy!
I just finished the article and all of the great new features the game has SE4 already has except the 3d engine and the advanced political system. But SE5 is going to have both of those and even more.
Only 4 planets around each star sad
It also doesn't look very easy to mod for it
I didn't see any mention of ground combat

Well folks there is a thing called feedback. Click on the authors name and it will take you to Gamespy's feedback page. If we want to get SEIV & SEV some attention this is the way to do it. Just remember, be polite and don't rant, we don't want to come off as a bunch of rabid fanboys!

All right then, I'll post something:
Nice interview on GalCiv2 - the idea of ships' appearance actually representing their sytems loadout is exciting... but the one thing that interview makes me want to do is suggest that you also interview Malfador Machinations, creators of the also upcoming indie 4X game Space Empires V! Why don't you send an email to se5@malfador.com and try to set up an interview - I as well as numerous other SE fans would greatly appreciate this, and it would bring to the forefront another sadly underpublicized series in a sadly underpublicized genre!
Thanks!

The question isn't whether SE5 can beat it...
The question is whether it can beat SE4.

Bingo. GC lasted about 2 weeks on my hard disk, whereas I've been playing SEIV since the day it came out and I'm in the middle of 2 games right now.
IMHO The 4x catagory is dead, dead, dead and has been since SEIV came out and it still dominates today.
SEV is the only 4x game coming out that I'm aware of, I can't imagine that would change.

Re: Quick, Aaron! Talk to Gamespy!
imho a stars! followup, or even a clone (there is an open source project in the make that is trying to acheive this) would remake the 4X space exploration thing to what it was. In many ways the Very, Very old stars! is superior over SEIV for me. mainly in management and feeling overall more real. it's interface is incredibbly old, but imhi its so much better to, with message filtering, and autoques for new colonies, etc, it has a lot of features i'd like to see in SEV. but one I know I will not see in SEV and that is one galaxy, without warppoints (okay maybe a black hole or two, but it'll never be a galaxy) warppoints make SE less "real" to me.
but stars is simply too old and had a terrible system in terms of politics and treaties (you could only set hostile, nonhostile, which is not much)
Anyways, if there is ever a game with the general feel and capabilities of stars!, the moddability of SE, and a good diplomacy system, then that would be the game for me.

For all good things there is a time. The time is not right for Malfadors good thing.
But tomorrow is a good time.
